What is vaping?

The world is changing rapidly with continuous technological development, and more innovative technologies and new concepts come into being, vaping is relatively one of the latest concepts among others, and it is more than a concept but gradually becoming an actual indispensable part of our lives.

Before we know how to vape, we should know what is vaping. Back in 2014, the Oxford English Dictionary defines "vape" as a verb and it means "to inhale and exhale the vapour produced by an electronic cigarette or similar device." We can also say that “Vaping is the act of inhaling vapour from an electronic cigarette or vape device.” Updated in August, "vape" is a utilitarian noun brought about by new technology. Though “vape” is no longer a new word, there must be a number of people who are new to vaping, and here are some guides on what is vape & how to vape for novice vapers.

What is a vape?

Vape is also called electronic cigarette or e-cigarette which is an atomizer driven by a lithium polymer battery, and the e-liquid in the tank is heated and vapourized by the atomizer. E-liquid is also known as e-juice, or vape juice; e-liquid contains propylene glycol(PG), vegetable glycerin(VG), flavourings and nicotine(optional). And e-cigarettes produce vapour via heating the e-liquid rather than burning it, so no tar and carbon monoxide would be released from vaping.

Some people in the medical field believe that vape is a potential nicotine substitute. Theoretically, vape can also reduce the impact of traditional cigarettes on the body and the possibility of fire. In some countries, electronic cigarettes are advocated to replace cigarettes as one of the ways for smokers to stay away from the carcinogen tar in cigarettes. Traditional cigarettes are burned at high temperature to produce tar, which is attached to the alveoli and is the culprit of the disease. However, e-cigarettes are atomized, do not produce tar, and have the potential to reduce harm.

How many types of vapes are there?

Generally speaking, we can devide the vape into 2 groups according to the accessibility - open-system vape and closed-system vape. It is simple, open-system vapes refer to the vape devices that can be refilled and recharged; closed-system vapes refer to the vape devices that cannot be refilled with e-liquid, such as disposable vapes.

By the output and vaping style, we can classify the vapes into the following categories: disposable vape, vape pod, AIO(all-in-one) vape, vape mod, and squonk mod. To be more specific, disposable vape and vape pod can bring MTL vaping, AIO vape can bring both MTL vaping and DTL vaping, vape mod and squonk mod are powful vapes that can bring DTL vaping experience.

How to vape?

After knowing what is vaping and vape, let’s see how to start vaping.

Step one, choose a suitable vape kit.

As mentioned above, we can classify the vapes into the following categories based on the output and vaping style: disposable vape, vape pod, AIO(all-in-one) vape, vape mod, and squonk mod.

Disposable vape: compact to carry and easy to use, most of them are inhale-activated; it is pre-filled with nic salt e-liquid and brings authentic MTL vaping experinece; Some can be recharged but cannot be refilled with e-liquid; All levels of vapers are recommended to use disposable vapes, especially for novices.

Pod vape: it is also compact and pocket-friendly, some are inhale-activated and some are activated via fire buttons; pod vape often comes with a refillable cartridge and charging port which means you can add your favourite e-liquid into the cartridge and vape, it can also be recharged, as well. Pod vape also produces a relatively lower output for delivering MTL vaping experience; Pod vape is suitable for beginners and those smokers who want to make a switch since pod vape can bring an authentic MTL vaping and deliver a similar inhale experience as smoking, nic salt e-liquid is highly recommended to use with pod vape.

AIO vape: AIO vape is also known as pod mod vape which means it is powerful enough to deliver both MTL vaping and DTL vaping. AIO vape has multiple functions and the basic ones include wattage adjustment, airflow control, auto(intelligent) mode, and so on. Therefore, AIO vape can be filled with nic salt e-liquid and high VG e-liquid which depends on what vaping style you choose.

Mod vape: Mod vape is a powerful vape device that is for advanced vapers to create big and fluffy clouds. Mod vape can provide a max 220W output, however, higher output means a bigger and heavier body, so mod vape often comes in a bulky box shape. High VG e-liquid is recommended to use with the mod vape.

Squonk mod: It is much similar to the mod vape but has a totally different operation theory - firstly, you fill the e-liquid into the e-liquid bottle of the squonk mod, and after that, you squeeze the e-liquid bottle in the centre of the squonk mod to let the e-liquid soak the coil, and then hit the fire button to vape. It is a powerful vape, so high VG e-liquid works well with it.

Step two, choose your e-liquid.

Generally speaking, the right e-liquid should match the right vape kit, and that is why I noted e-liquid recommendations on the above different kinds of vapes. However, choosing e-liquid is also an important procedure, which involves nicotine strengths and flavors.

E-liquid for MTL vaping: It often appears in higher nicotine strength and varies from 0mg to 50mg.

E-liquid for DTL vaping: It often appears in lower nicotine strength and varies from 0mg to 20mg.

Step three, vape and go!

After finishing the pick of vape kit and e-liquid, you can start your vaping journey! Whether you are a sub-ohm vaper or an MTL vaper, whether you vape a hell lot of nicotine or you are a nicotine-free vaper, it doesn’t matter since vaping is what you make so.
